Rod Review

Surprising from the Outset, Molix's MOR-C-76SB Swimbait Stick

Date: 9/22/25
Tackle Type: Rod
Manufacturer: Molix
Reviewer: Cal

Total Score: 8.08 - GREAT

Introduction:
Some may have been disappointed to learn the recently reviewed Molix Fioretto Essence MFE-C-73SB is a stick not currently stocked in their favorite North American tackle stores. Well, I have good news. For those interested in sampling something similar and more easily accessible, there exists one lone rod from Molix in the aisles of TackleWarehouse. It is the Outset MOR-C-76SB. This stick has a more serious big bait spec than the MFE-C-73SB, but still not so serious that it can't also skirt that line between conventional and big. Or can it? Let's take a closer look.

Introducing Molxi's Outset MOR-C-76SB

Impressions: The Molix Outset MOR-C-76SB is a two piece, seven foot, six inch stick that separates at the handle like many JDM offerings. The handle is of a split rear grip design with EVA foam hand holds. The reel seat is a proprietary product with cutaway designs similar to a Batson reel seat. A decorative hood finishes off the reel seat and handle giving the overall handle design a clean, more polished look.

The MOR-C-76SB features a split rear grip

It is built with double footed guides throughout (stainless steel guides with titanium oxide inserts, zirconium insert at the tip top), and the blank is given a glossy coat finish for protection from dings and scratches. It's a simple, yet clean and somewhat understated build. There are gold winding checks at the handle and some white accents at the grip and under the reel seat, but it's all done very tastefully and not over the top.

A look at the proprietary reel seat

Real World Tests: I paired the MOR-C-76SB with a similarly understated reel, Abu Garcia's Revo5 SX SS in an 8:1 retrieve ratio. I loaded the SX with fifty pound Sunline FX2 Braid and finished it with a leader of fifteen pound Seaguar Tatsu using an Albright knot.

Looking for that brand on brand mojo

Casting: The MOR-C-76SB comes with a max lure rating of four ounces (4oz), but given my affinity for the manufacturer's GlideBait 140, I had to fish this bait on this stick for some Molix mojo. Weighing at just over two ounces, this bait is right in the middle of the MOR-C-76SB's lure rating and feels as though it was made for this stick and vice versa. Casting at this weight class is effortless for the MOR-C-76SB despite its reg-fast taper, I didn't have to adjust my release point or angle of cast to fire this bait both for distance and accuracy. The slightly larger, trout shaped, GlideBait 178 (2.75oz) is equally easy to cast with this stick.

The MOR-C-76SB loads and releases energy during a cast very efficiently

The heaviest bait I cast on the MOR-C-76SB was Illude Baits's Pistol Gill, a hand carved, wood bait weighing about three and a quarter ounces (3.25oz). Here too, the stick was unfazed though I could feel it a bit more on the back cast as the rod was loading up. I'd say the max lure rating for this rod is pretty spot on.

Double footed guides throughout

Sensitivity: There's no indication from the manufacturer regarding the grade of graphite used in the MOR-C-76SB's blank other than to say "Toray Carbon Fiber," but given' the rod's price point, I doubt it's anything extraordinary. If you're throwing hard bodied big baits on this stick, sensitivity is not really a big concern because hits are not very subtle. At the same time, it was not difficult to understand what my bait was doing in the water and if a hit was an actual hit or if my bait was stopped by a clump of vegetation, so for the purpose in which this stick was designed, together with its price point, I'd say sensitivity is very much on par.
