Introduction: For anglers, sunglasses aren’t just about style, they’re a
tool. A good pair can reveal structure, highlight prey, and even help you spot
fish. Bajío is quickly making a name for itself with high-performance, durable,
and eco-conscious sunglasses. The standout in their 2026 lineup is the new
Palehorse, a unique frame blends technical features with a sleek versatile look.

Bajio's newest frame is the
feature-rich Palehorse
Impressions: Sunglasses are
a critical part of every angler’s kit. When it comes to purpose-built optics
designed not just to protect your eyes but to actually help you see more fish, a
handful of brands immediately come to mind. Among them is Bajío, a company
founded by industry veterans and passionate anglers Al Perkinson and Marguerite
Meyer. Based in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, Bajío has built its reputation on
producing high-performance, durable, and environmentally conscious eyewear.
While the brand was born with a strong saltwater pedigree, it has rapidly gained
traction among freshwater anglers who demand the same level of optical
performance.

The Palehorse comes with an
oversized cloth bag that can hold the entire case and also be used to clean the
frame and lenses
When Bajío unveiled its 2026
lineup, the frame that immediately caught my attention was the highly technical
Palehorse. Named after Captain Kevin Beach’s Freeman Boatworks charter boat, the
Palehorse is engineered for harsh, high-glare environments where visual clarity
can make the difference between spotting fish and missing opportunities.

Use of sustainable and recycled
materials is a big part of Bajio's identity and mission
The Palehorse is offered in three
frame colors and seven lens options, available in either glass or polycarbonate
constructions to suit different performance preferences. Key features include
removable side shields for enhanced peripheral light control, an integrated Sun
Ledge™ brow design to block overhead glare, and vented, non-slip recessed nose
pads for all-day comfort. Flex barrel hinges add durability, while Bajío rounds
things out with a protective case made from recycled materials and a microfiber
storage bag that doubles as a cleaning cloth.

Inside the stylish rugged case
Real World Tests: I’ve
fished a wide range of frames over the years, but my personal benchmarks have
been the Costa King Tide 6 as a dedicated on-the-water performer and the Costa
Aransas as my everyday crossover pair. The Palehorse marks my first time fishing
with Bajío optics, so I was especially interested to see how they would stack up
against frames I know well.

The Green Tort Matter frames look
stylish. The sideshields integrated into the frame versus the arms give the
Palehorse a more stylish lifestyle look than traditional wraps
To put them to the test, I spent
this winter targeting largemouth bass across several Northern California lakes,
fishing through cold mornings, low sun angles, and the kind of shifting light
conditions that quickly expose weaknesses in lesser optics. The configuration I
tested was the Palehorse in Green Tort Matte paired with Bajío’s copper glass
lenses, a combination aimed squarely at maximizing contrast and clarity in the
stained water and variable light that bass anglers frequently encounter.

The most innovative thing about
the side shields is they offer the best of both worlds with the ability to fold
when stowed
Operation: At first glance,
the Palehorse reads like a hybrid frame: a medium wrap with integrated side
shields. Unlike most side-shield designs, these are positioned on the frame
itself rather than the arms, keeping them partially hidden and giving the frame
a stealthier, lifestyle-friendly look.

Testing the Palehorse in bright
conditions
The Palehorse is a large-fit,
medium-wrap frame crafted from lightweight bio-based nylon, and it felt
comfortable right out of the case. I have a fairly large head, which likely
helped, but even on larger profiles, the Palehorse manages to feel secure
without clamping uncomfortably on the temples.
