Lure Review

It's Name Is... Mini-Me, by S.O.B. & SpotstickerBaits (continued)

Features: If there's one area to nitpick with this bait it's the fashion in which the skirt is attached to the body. The manufacturer is using a thick rubber band to hold the skirt on instead of tying. Some will argue this makes it easier to replace the skirt, but since extra skirts are not supplied with the bait, I'd find it easier to just buy one or two in different colors if I wanted to change things up.

The bait's skirts are secured with this band.

Otherwise, the Mini-Me does not come packaged with a trailer hook, and is available in either double willow or a tandem (willow and Colorado) blade configurations. The blades themselves are available in either gold, nickel, or painted finishes. The swivels on this bait are Spro ball bearing swivels and there were no extra strips of mylar or other materials in the skirt for added flash and flare.

Design/Ergonomics: The half dozen or so baits I had to evaluate were all very consistent out of their packaging so I didn't have to bend any wires or tune any of these baits to run straight. The Mini-Me is available in four different weight sizes from the manufacturer's website and if you order from the manufacturer's website, you also get a choice of an r-bend or twisted loop line tie. I prefer the twisted loop but find it interesting this is presented as an option.

Mustad Ultra-Points are standard.

We've already discussed the head design, but drilling down a little further, the Mini-Me also has realistic, 3D eyes and not just a painted dot. Detailing in this bait is very good.

Available direct from SpotSticker with either an R-bend or twisted loop line tie... I prefer the twisted loop.

Application: Though available in sizes up to 1 1/4 oz in weight, the Mini-Me in double willow configuration is best in middle to shallow depths. You can fish it deeper, but double willows don't make a great deep water bait. Tandem would be better in this situation as well as night fishing where that Colorado blade will be better at slower speeds.

Pluses and Minuses:

Plus

Minus
+ Compact head design presents a nice profile - Skirt is not hand tied
+ Nice attention to detail in crafting this bait
+ Quality hook and swivel hardware

Spinnerbait fun on the CA Delta thanks to the Mini-Me Spinnerbait!

Conclusion: Spinnerbaits have always been one of my favorite lures to throw. I love how versatile and weedless these baits can be and when fish are hitting them on a fast retrieve, you can really cover a lot of water chucking and winding these baits. The Mini-Me spinnerbait has a wonderful, compact design that makes it easy to cast and effective in situations where larger profile baits might not work - i.e. in pressure situations. If you're looking for some new spinnerbaits to sample, be sure to put the SpotSticker Baits S.O.B. Mini-Me on your list!
