Storage Review

Plano EDGE - The Freedom to Create Unique Storage Solutions for Every Angler (continued)

When it comes to price the EDGE boxes are more expensive than most other boxes, including Plano's traditional StowAway and Rustrictor boxes. As an example a Rustrictor 3700 box retails for $8.39 while the comparable 3700 STD box retails for $24.99. The most expensive box in the lineup is the highly configurable Master 3700 Terminal Box which retails for $49.99 dollars. Though they are more than double the price of the average tackle box after using the EDGE boxes for two seasons I can confidently say that they are absolutely worth the extra investment.

The EDGE Series not only protects your tackle but keeps it organized and more accessible, all of which helps keep you in the game

The EDGE boxes are extremely well designed and the flexibility in configuration of these well engineered boxes is what makes them intriguing, but what makes them more than a novelty is just how good they are at protecting your valuable tackle over the long haul.

These boxes are like vaults for your arsenal of lures, and though they are heavier than your standard boxes this also serves as a reminder of just how well-built they are. With stainless steel hinges, polycarbonate lids, and reinforced Rustrictor plastic frames the EDGE boxes will last through many seasons of heavy use.

Ratings: (We've re-calibrated our ratings standard for 2008 and have included a key at the bottom of the following matrix as a guide)

Plano Edge Series Boxes Ratings (?/10)

Construction/Quality The EDGE Series raises the bar not just for Plano tackle boxes but all storage boxes throughout the industry. These boxes are built with extremely robust materials including reinforced plastic frames infused with Rustrictor, polycarbonate lids, and stainless steel pin hinges 9.5
Performance While the performance of each box is unique we decided to rate all the boxes as a complete system. The must-have boxes will really depend on your specific applications, favorite bait types and personal fishing style. The boxes are designed with enough configurability that anglers have true freedom to create your own ideal storage system 9
Price The Plano EDGE boxes are more than twice as expensive as your average tackle boxes but I'd argue that they are many times as feature-rich and well built. These boxes may be expensive but they come with useful features that don't exist in other boxes and are built to last 7.5
Features The EDGE Series boxes are loaded with features and each individual box has some unique and innovative characteristics. The Master Terminal box is a masterpiece when it comes to organizing small terminal tackle and maximizing storage in a small footprint. The FLEX boxes offer complete flexibility while the jig box makes organizing and protecting oddly sized jigs and bladed jigs effortless 9
Design (Ergonomics) The EDGE Series boxes are truly designed with anglers in mind and are engineered to be intuitive and adaptable. I love how easy they are to configure and the single latch design is excellent. The only thing that hurts the boxes overall ergonomics is how much heavier they are than traditional boxes, but for most anglers this is a worthy trade-off for the added durability 8
Application There are a lot of good boxes in the lineup and anglers will need to find the ones that meet their unique needs. For me the EDGE Master Terminal and Professional Standard Boxes are must-haves. These boxes really do give anglers an extra edge on, and off, the water by providing excellent tackle storage management and protection. We spend so much on our baits and these boxes provide the protection that they deserve 8.5

Conclusion: Over the last two seasons the longer I used the Plano EDGE boxes the more I found ways to configure and utilize them. Originally I thought I was discovering new things about the boxes themselves but I now realize that the boxes offer so much flexibility that I am still constantly finding ways to adapt them to my own specific tackle organization and storage preferences.

One of the best things about the EDGE System is that Plano has built enough configurability into the design of these boxes that they are able to really cater to the needs of each and every individual angler's unique tackle storage preferences.

I started with two boxes and have now converted my entire tackle storage system to Plano EDGE Series boxes. These boxes have changed the way that I organize and store my tackle, and helped make even more of my arsenal available on the go

The EDGE Series are the best storage boxes that the company has ever built, and that is saying a lot when you consider how long the company has been molding boxes, and now that Pure Fishing has brought Plano into their vast portfolio the brand will have even more resources in which to draw from. While previous Plano boxes have helped create an entire segment and provided years of service, the EDGE boxes are the first to really look, feel, and perform like an enthusiast level tackle storage solution. Plano has built more than just a few great storage boxes with the new EDGE Series, and has provided anglers with a storage solution. This is a product that enables anglers to truly create their own ideal storage system, which is an "edge" in itself.
