Prop Walker: In addition to their exciting lineup of new swimbaits Savage Gear also introduced some exciting new topwater lures, which included the Prop Walker, a new take on the pencil walker. The Prop Walker looks like other large pencils until you look at the rear section and see two collapsible forward facing concave blades. These blades can be locked in place for more traditional walk the dog action, or deployed to create the rear section to spin like a prop bait!

With the prop function engaged, the bait’s cupped mouth adds forward commotion by pushing water for enhanced appeal. For walking presentations, the Prop Walker’s narrow profile smoothly sashays across the water’s surface with an alluring motion that fish can track from for long distances.

Look closely at the rear of the Prop Walker and you will see the deployable blades

“You might say the Savage Gear Prop Walker has a split personality, but both of them function efficiently, while complementing one another,” said Savage Gear Marketing Manager Jose Chavez. “Anglers can cover expansive areas with the prop function, but then utilize the walker function to narrow down their search. This bait’s quick change ability makes it very strategic, because you can accomplish two objectives without switching baits.

The Prop Walker can transform from a walk the dog bait to a prop bait

The Prop walker is constructed out of a durable material and the blades are designed to take a hit and keep on spinning. Unlike rigid metal or hard plastic props, the Prop Walker’s blades can handle the occasional bending, twisting and flexing without breaking or losing their functional shape. These hybrid baits measure in at 5 1/4 inches long, and will be available in six ultra-realistic colors (bone, dirty silver, black, ghost minnow, American shad, white, golden shiner, and fire tiger for $13.99 each.

The DC Walker may look like other frogs but features a dual chamber design to prevent the bait from swamping

DC Walker: The team at Savage Gear has also been working on improving fundamental hollow bodied frog design and is now introducing their Dual Chamber (DC) Series to address the challenge of water intrusion. The basic design of a hollow body topwater bait finds a double hook extending from an underside opening, which creates a small path for water to reach the bait’s interior. Recognizing this vulnerability, Savage Gear designed the DC baits with a lower chamber for the hook and an independently sealed upper chamber that minimizes water intrusion and keeps the bait performing as it should. The new DC Walker measures 2 5/8 inches and comes in six enticing colors, each retailing for $11.99. The company is also working on the Slide Gill which is a bream imitator.

Savage Grip trebles feature a flexible eye to help keep fish pinned

A Surprise Hook: Savage Gear also surprised everyone at the show with a new Savage Grip treble hook which is designed to keep fish pinned regardless of the bait type. From crankbaits to jerkbaits, walkers to poppers, reaction style baits with dangling treble hooks can provide fish just enough movement and leverage to dislodge those points. This often occurs when a fish jumps or thrashes at boat side. Savage has designed a hook to prevent fish from shaking loose with an innovative flexible eye.

Traditional hook design finds the eye formed from a continuation of the actual hook material and may not absorb all the energy, and allow the leverage of the fish to come unbuttoned during the fight; but Savage Gear creates its durable and flexible eye from 120-pound braid linked to the hook with an epoxy coating. The result is a hook that spins freely on the lure to absorb all the fight a fish can muster.

Available in sizes 4, 2, 1 and 1/0, the Savage Grip Treble is made with a black nickel finish. This high-performance wide gap hook is a designed for retrofitting any lure with treble hooks, while natural bait pursuits from muskie to snook can also potentially benefit from its flexible design.

There was a lot to see this year from the company, and it is clear that Mads, Jose, and the entire international team at Savage Gear is interested in ramping up their level of innovation regardless of bait type. We look forward to see what "savagery" comes next!
