Introduction:
Daiwa’s Tatula Series of products continues to be a top selling series for the
company and this weekend at the Classic the company is introducing yet another
version, the Tatula SV TW 103, their lightest Tatula to date. We have been
fishing a mass production reel for a few months and it is time to take a closer
look at this new lighter, and more refined, baitcaster.

Daiwa launches the new Daiwa
Tatula SV TW 103 reel at the 50th Bassmaster Classic
Impressions - A whole lot of Tatula: The
Tatula has become the dominant series of baitcasters for Daiwa, a position once
occupied by the more expensive Zillions, as the moderately priced reels have
continued to improve and make use of features once reserved for the company’s
higher-end reels. Prior to the introduction of the new Tatula SV TW103 there
were already seven other Tatula reels (Tatula CT, Tatula 100, Tatula 150, Tatula
200, Tatula SV TW, Tatula Elite, Tatula Elite P/F ), and just when anglers
thought there were plenty of options out there Daiwa dropped the new SV TW103,
their smallest and lightest reel SV equipped reel yet.

From first glance this Tatula
looks very similar to others in the family
This new Tatula reel visually looks near identical
to the other Tatula reels and makes use of the Daiwa’s latest compact 100
profile design. Visually the new Tatula SV TW103 is one of the stealthiest
looking in the series, and doesn’t feature any color highlights to make it
immediately identifiable. The finish of the overall reel is a bluish-black, and
the coating is similar to the treatment on the SV TW variants, which visually
ties the new reel to Daiwa’s higher- end baitcasters, and the large spider
graphic on the non-handle side will constantly remind you that this is a Tatula
reel.

The reel is based on the Tatula
100 platform and features a very compact profile
Weight reduction was a
priority when Daiwa designed the new reel and this new Tatula weighs in at only
6.7 ounces, which is .2oz. lighter than the current Tatula 100 reels, and
exactly the same as the more expensive Tatula Elite.
Like many other Tatula reels the
new SV TW103 comes with 7BB+1RB configuration and is available in 6.3:1, 7.1:1,
and 8.1:1 retrieve ratios in both right and left hand retrieves. All six of the
new models feature the same 32mm A7075 spool which offers a capacity of 14/100.

Time to see what this new Daiwa
Tatula is all about
