Berkley's New MaxScent PowerBait D-Worm (continued)

One thing many will like about this bait is the ability of the D-Worm to stay on the hook and not get too torn up after a few fish. Even though the D-Wrom is not very thick in diameter in some areas that dense yet flexible plastic is surprisingly durable, even when you get into an area with a lot of tail snatching, limb mauling bluegill.

The soft plastic is firm yet flexible.

Design & Ergonomics: Berkley, of course, has infused their D-Worm with PowerBait, and in this particular product the company is using a new formulation labeled MaxScent PowerBait which is infused into the bait during the actual pouring process so it is evenly distributed and infused throughout the entire worm.

Durability is very good even when you hit areas with a lot of bluegill that often rob limbs, nip off tails, or steal complete worms off the hook.

As scented soft baits go, while that PowerBait scent can be overpowering when you open the bag, but at least there's no mess in the bag itself. There are no oils to leak, or greasy coatings on the worm to wash off your fingers. Berkley's formulation really makes it seem as if the bait itself is the "PowerBait."

Colors are all very opaque.

Price & Applications: Berkley's PowerBait MaxScent D-Worm is available in ten different colors and comes in a resealable bag of ten baits for $6.99. This comes out to roughly $0.70 per worm which is actually on the high side for a soft plastic worm until you take into consideration the bait's surprising durability and of course, the way in which Berkley infuses that PowerBait MaxScent.

Pluses and Minuses:

Plus

Minus
+ No mess scent - Cost per worm is high
+ Good durability - Colors are unrefined
+ PowerBait just works

If you're looking for a soft plastic worm that's durable, and catches fish, you should know by now that PowerBait just works

Conclusion: Berkley's D-Worm is not a product that will win any awards for aesthetics. The worms have an unrefined, mass produced look about them that's difficult to describe. The opaque colors, large-ish color flecks, and mealy texture don't inspire confidence except for one thing - they work. Thanks to the company's trademark PowerBait formulation, fish bite this worm and really do hang on giving you that extra opportunity to set the hook. To top it off, the baits are also durable so while the cost per worm is high, they don't tear up as easily as other soft plastic worms. My only complaint about this product really is I wish the colors were more dynamic. Otherwise, if you're looking for a soft plastic worm that's durable, and catches fish, you should know by now that PowerBait just works.
