Keeping the Hammer
Fresh:
Often imitated
and never duplicated
the Z-Man X
Evergreen JackHammer
has already achieved
legendary status as
a proven fish
catcher and one of
the most relied upon
reaction baits in
tournament history.
There is no pro
angler more
synonymous with this
bait than Elite
Series Pro Angler
Brett Hite who
states, "“The more
we throw this
amazing lure, the
more we discover
different bass
catching niches,
such as deep, clear
water smallmouths,
suspended spotted
bass programs and
overlooked reservoir
bites for big
largemouths. When
you’re fishing
against so many
anglers casting the
same lure—especially
in high pressure
tournament
scenarios—the more
critical it becomes
to really dial in to
the conditions,
presenting precise
skirt / blade /
jighead color
combinations
preferred by big,
selective fish."
Leveraging plenty of input from
Brett Hite and other
Pro Anglers Z-Man and
Evergreen are
launching four fresh
new JackHammer patterns for
Fall which are
designed to provide
anglers with an even
stronger arsenal for
targeting fish in
clear, cooler, heavily
pressured water, and
even at night.
The Smallmouth Magic
pattern will pair
beautifully with
many shad style
trailers
Smallmouth Magic:
This new pattern is
designed to play off
a popular small
swimbait colors for
targeting smallies
and is the first
JackHammer with a
more subdued
watermelon blade. It
features a color
matched head and
skirting with some
blue flake on top
and crystal white
below. This subtle
pattern should be
good for clear water
and does a good job
as a versatile shad
pattern.
This is also the
first JackHammer
with a subdued
watermelon blade
Hite believes that
this combination
looks "naturally
toned-down" so it
isn't overly showy
in the water for
situations where
more stealth and
subtlety are the
ticket.
The recognizable
Morning Dawn pattern
is designed to
deliver a baitfish
halo effect in clear
water while tapping
into some West Coast
confidence colors
Morning Dawn:
This pattern is
instantly
recognizable to
anglers coast to
coast as it taps
into the vibe of the
deadly West Coast
worm pattern.
This pattern’s
metallic pink head
is paired with a
muted chrome blade
to accentuate the
subtle illusion,
an deadly yet often
overlooked color
configuration for
reaction baits in
clear water lakes
and deep reservoirs.
Like the pink worms
this one will likely
be deadly for big
spots and smallmouth
bass, and we know
that largies will
crush this colorway
too.
The California Craw
is a versatile
pattern for almost
all conditions
California Craw:
On the other end
of the spectrum is
the boldly styled
California Craw
which shows out with
a red throat and
blood red sparkles
that continue on
into the green
pumpkin blade with a
matching splatter
pattern. The skirt's
clearly defined two
tone pattern can
easily pass for both
a gill or perch when
fish are bulking up
on sunfish during
the Fall.
The Black Jack
should be deadly for
low-light and night
fishing and Hite
also recommends
throwing it in dirty
water
Black Jack:
Rounding things out
is the all
monochromatic Black
Jack pattern. This
dark combination
features a matte
black head and blade
paired with a skirt
with just a bit of
flash offering fish
a subtle bait with
subtlety and low
reflection to entice
highly pressured
bass, or drive
strikes at night.
While most anglers
will view the Black
Jack primarily as
a low-light/night
pattern Hite
compares this
pattern to the
allure of a solid
black marabou jog
and personally
prefers to fish it
in dirty water, like
the stained Florida
Lakes or at times
for big smallmouth.
Our Quick Take:
The Z-Man x
Evergreen JackHammer
is the go-to bladed
jig for so many
anglers that at
times it can feel
like everyone on the
lake or river are
throwing the same
proven patterns.
These four fresh
patterns are some of
the most exciting
yet, not because
they are flashy,
but because they
channel some of the
most proven patterns
combined with the
proven Chatterbait
JackHammer design.
They are also in
many ways more
subtle than the
existing patterns,
giving anglers
something different
to throw in clear,
cold, or stained water when
the brighter
patterns and blinged
out metallic blades
are not producing as
they should. All of
the new fall
JackHammer patterns
will launch in
3/8oz. and 1/2oz.
weights and start
becoming available
in late October.
