Swimbait Review

Buongiorno! An Aggressively Priced Glide Bait from Molix (continued)

I had best success with this bait retrieved just a foot or two below the surface where I could see it and working it above big boulders, patches of weeds, or other likely ambush points. Bass are seldom shy when they see a bait like this gliding overhead. Either they'll come out to annihilate it or they'll follow and reveal where they've been hiding and that big shadow following your bait is what mesmerizes big bait throwers making it difficult to put the baits down.

Not many baits of this type have an articulated anal fin

Dorsal fins are a little more common

Design/Ergonomics: Surprisingly, Molix is offering their Glide Bait in only 4 different patterns. Perhaps they are testing the market and will expand upon the color choices once the bait gains some traction, or maybe they're working on a process to apply paint to the bait as its body cures embedding the finish like a fresco to ensure better durability.

The tail looks like it's replaceable, but there are no spares in the packaging

A feature of this bait that should not go unmentioned is the fact the hook ties at the bottom of the bait are on swivels. Molix has adopted this increasingly popular feature on larger baits that we first found in 22nd Century's Triple Trout bait back in 2007. The swivels are especially beneficial in larger baits because they make it more difficult for a fish to gain proper leverage to throw the bait as you're battling.

Hook ties are swiveling

Price & Application: There is one thing Molix does not share in common with the famous Italian designer brand names we listed at the beginning of this article. Their products are not made of unobtanium nor are they priced as such.

The Molix Glide Bait retails for just $25.99 per bait

Retail on the Molix Glide Bait is just $25.99 which makes this a great bait for someone looking to get into the addiction that is throwing bigger baits. Trouble is, because it's affordable and so easy to cast and fish, this is also a good bait for seasoned big bait throwers to use when they don't feel like tying on and risking the loss of one of their more rare and expensive baits.

If you're still on the fence about the glide bait scene or are looking for a new one to throw that won't break your tackle budget, Molix's Glide Bait is waiting to greet you

Conclusion: Considering this bait's heritage, I was half expecting to find its eyes made of precious jewels and its fins of Florentine leather. Well, not really, but could you imagine? No, Italy is not known for its innovative designs when it comes to the fishing industry. Not yet anyway, but Molix is doing a good job forging a reputation of bait products that inspire a sort of carefree spirit. Afterall, fishing is supposed to be fun. The Molix Glide Bait is definitely fun, and easy, to throw all day and there's no bigger smile or thrill than when a hungry persico trota slams a bait of this size at the end of your line. If you're still on the fence about the glide bait scene or are looking for a new one to throw that won't break your tackle budget, Molix's Glide Bait is waiting to greet you with a hearty, Buongiorno!
