Introduction:
When Michael Neal, MLF Pro Angler, first signed with Big Bite Baits several years ago, I asked him if he was working on a signature bait for the company. He mentioned he thought there were some products missing in their lineup but of course, he was not at liberty to share - at least not on the record. Being the respectful media professional that I am, I didn't press - on the record, but you can be certain I fished to find out otherwise. Fast forward a couple years later and everything has come to light. Introducing Big Bite Bait Company's, Michael Neal, Limit Maker.

Impressions: Big Bite Bait's Limit Maker is a small, three and three quarter inch (3 3/4") soft plastic bait with a tapered, stick body ending in a pointed little tail. It's one of those do-nothing, looks-like-nothing, little baits that's easily taken for granted. I'd put it in a similar category in terms of overall shape and look as Jackall's Crosstail Shad only this bait has a bit more going on.

Introducing Big Bite Bait's Michael Neal Limit Maker

Real World Tests: I fished the Limit Maker primarily as a drop shot bait but it's really designed to be fished on Big Bite Baits's Limit Maker Jig head or something similar.

The Limit Maker is a small, three and three quarter inch (3 3/4") soft plastic bait with a tapered, stick body ending in a pointed little tail

This bait's review cycle actually went more quickly than I anticipated. The first time I used it, I was just putting it on the hook of my drop shot leader just to check out its action in the water. Its action is pretty subtle with that thin, needle like tail doing all the work responding with a little wiggle to any current influence or shake/twitch of the line with your rod tip.

The bait's head is well suited for rigging on a jighead or nose hooking on a drop shot hook

After viewing it briefly next to the boat, I made a cast and soon after the bait hit bottom, I got a hit! It may simply have been a case of right time, right place, but after I landed the two-pound bass, I quickly straightened out the bait and made another cast. This is an easy bait with which to build confidence.

Overall, the bait is pretty durable save for the tail which is prone to being bitten off by smaller fish

Through that first day of fishing the Limit Maker on a somewhat slow day, I managed about five or six fish all on one bait. The body is made of a soft, but durable plastic and because it's so short, it doesn't get tossed around much while you're fighting a fish so chances of it getting ripped up are minimal.

It's a little difficult to see, but this bait does have fins coming out the side running the length of its body

I later decided just to replace the bait to see if a fresh one would increase the catch ratio and on the second cast I felt a quick little "tap tap," but when I raised the rod tip to set hook, there was nothing there. I reeled in the bait to see what happened and discovered the tail on my Limit Maker bait was half as long as usual. Some little sunfish nipped its tail off. So while one bait lasted through several fish, I didn't even get one with the other.

Here's another look at those fins

Design & Ergonomics: Big Bite Bait's Limit maker comes in a resealable bag of 10 baits. They are packaged with Big Bite Bait's Bite Juice, which is probably what attracted the sunfish to nip the tail off my fresh bait, and it's available in eight different colors for now.

Price & Applications: Each pack of Limit Maker baits retails for $4.49 which comes to about $0.45 per bait. This is a pretty fair price for a bait as effective and durable as the Limit Maker. I was so happy with this bait as a drop shot offering that I didn't even fish it under its intended application on the back of a jighead.

More often than not, when rigged as a drop shot bait, for me the bait would slide up the line during battle with a fish

Pluses and Minuses:

Plus

Minus
+ Subtle yet effective - Limited color palette
+ Easy for others to take this bait for granted and not use it which opens the door for you to catch'em
+ Durable compared with many competing options

The Limit Maker is a stealthy little bait and one that I grow more fond of with each passing trip.

Conclusion: Big Bite Bait's Michael Neal Limit Maker is a quiet, unassuming little product - sort of like the person it's named after. If you're open minded enough to rig one up like I was, you may be very surprised at its effectiveness. Michael Neal did actually demonstrate the bait for me in the manner in which it was intended to be fished on the back of that jighead, and he certainly caught them that day we were fishing together. I wanted to see for myself if it was effective in other applications hence the drop shot rig, and of course I was not disappointed. Hopefully Big Bite Baits will begin producing this bait in more colors but for now, if you're on the hunt for a bait not may others will likely have, but is effective, check out a bag or two of Big Bite Bait's Michael Neal Limit Maker.
