Make Your Own Luck in the Long Sleeve 13 Fishing Shield Shirt (continued)

Operation: Comfort is a very important aspect everyone considers when shopping for new duds, and this shirt doesn't disappoint. One thing I can't stand is a shirt that is too loose or baggy. Thankfully, that's something I don't have to deal with here because the Shield shirt fits nicely to the contours of my upper body. The trim fit makes for a garment that not only looks better, but stays out of the way when casting or working a lure. It allows you to enjoy freedom of movement without that annoying feeling of being restricted.

Here's a closer look at the logo and phrase on the rear of the shirt.

The 13 Fishing Shield shirt is not the coolest shirt I've ever worn, but it does breathe well and is comfortable enough to wear during hot weather if you're looking to get some additional sun protection. I remember years ago before these types of quick-drying garments became really popular, I'd normally wear a long sleeve cotton shirt for protection from the sun's rays. Those shirts are fine under certain conditions, but throw in some hot weather and humidity and they become wet and stinky awfully quick! Not only does this shirt breathe, but it wicks moisture and dries much quicker than cotton.

Sending a beautiful plug-caught snook back to the mangroves.

At 6-feet-3-inches tall and weighing in at 207 pounds, I'm a bit bigger than average. Thanks to my height, lots of food, and a strict gym routine, it can be frustrating at times to find a shirt that fits perfectly. My test shirt fits my body very well from a tightness standpoint, but it would be great with an additional inch or so of length in the body to extend just a tad further below the belt line.

The 13 Fishing logo on the right arm adds a touch of extra detail.

Price and Applications: The tackle that 13 Fishing offers is quite affordable overall, however the Shield shirt carries a price that is a bit higher than I expected from the brand. The tag shows a price of $44.00, however TackleWarehouse.com carries these between $36.99–$39.99. Indeed, there are many similar shirts out there carrying about the same price, but with the awesome value that 13 Fishing is known for I was expecting a bit lower cost.

Inside the shirt, markings are clearly visible and there's some black trim around the inner neck portion.

As previously mentioned, this is a nice shirt to wear on the boat or running errands around town. Since it's relatively fitted and breathable, it's also a great choice for people engaging in sports like tennis or soccer. I know that if I still lived in California where there are big hills and actual mountains, I'd have no problem wearing this shirt on my hiking adventures!

Pluses and Minuses:

Plus

Minus
+ A quality garment - Logo on front may be too big for some folks
+ Looks great - Slightly short for very tall people
+ Fits well
+ Versatile

Yours truly showing off a nice snook while wearing a nice shirt!

Conclusion: I'm a huge fan of fishing clothing, especially the quick drying or “technical” apparel that's so widely available today. Not only is it extremely comfortable and usually looks great, its sun protecting qualities and ability to dry quicker than cotton makes it even more desirable. The 13 Fishing Shield shirt is a solid entry into this market, and delivers some nice qualities at a modest price. For those of you that are big fans of 13 Fishing, this is a great shirt if you want to represent the brand and stay comfortable while doing it.
