El Salto with Shimano |
Fishing El Salto with pre-release Shimano Tackle and Jimmy Houston
(continued)

Recommended
lures cont'd: Be sure to gear up before your trip, because few guides out
there have a truly good assortment of tackle. More established lodges like
Anglers Inn will have a tackle store on the premises, but they might run out of
the hot baits. Pack heavy on the lure side, its better to not use them then
watch boats all around you slam’em with baits you don’t have.

Zander makes
it on the "Big Bass" board |
At times the right pattern here can make magic happen, and being out that
critical color can make all the difference. Trust me, when we lost our last
Citrus pattern Fat Free shad and found ourselves bartering with other anglers on
the lake, and in the end were forced to trade a good amount of our ice cold beer
just to get our hands on another.

Language translator for the El Salto: When in Rome
…ok, well when at El Salto it’s good to know a few things in spanish in order to
make sure that you get the very most out of your fishing experience. The guides
at Anglers Inn are better than other regional guides when it comes to conversing
in english, but to be absolutely covered it’s a good idea to write down a few of
these translations.

Zander's
biggest fish of the trip |
Conclusion: Look in any fishing magazine that posts
lunker pics and you're sure to come across a picture of an angler grinning from
ear to ear with an El Salto bucketmouth lipped. Bass fishing just doesn’t get
much better than El Salto, and the lake is so famous for a reason. We have the
luxury of field testing tackle all over the world, but there was no better place
to beta test the up and coming Shimano reels and rods than on the monster bass
here at El Salto. The accommodations at the Anglers Inn lodge were fantastic,
from the knowledgeable guides to the four star cuisine, the well designed fully
air conditioned compound deserves an award on its own.

The team at
Shimano have some very exciting new tackle this season, and let the tackle
speak for itself at El Salto |
On the trip our genial
hosts from Shimano proved two things, they are truly passionate about what they
do, and they sure know how to have a good time doing it. They let the tackle
speak for itself rather than try and shove any marketing down our throats. We
put their new products through the El Salto wringer, and can attest that these
products are more than ready for primetime. Because Shimano had flown in a
number of their top dealers from across the country we were able to compare our
experiences with them as well, and they agreed that Shimano had put together a
very attractive new portfolio for their unique regional applications. When ICAST
rolls around in just two weeks the whole story can be revealed, but suffice to
say that the team at Shimano is going to make a ton of bass anglers and tackle
aficionados very happy this season.
Thanks to the entire team at Shimano for the hospitality, and giving us a
firsthand look at what is to come in their new 2008 reel and rod lineup...stay
tuned for the rest of the story live from ICAST!
