Lure Update

Let the Revolution Begin : An Upgraded, Rebranded Spinnerbait by RMD

Date: 8/14/11
Tackle type: Lure
Manufacturer: RMD
Reviewer: Cal

Introduction:
A little over three years ago, we brought you the story of the brand new Kevkel Double Louvered Leaf Spinnerbait, a spinnerbait featuring two willow leaf blades modified with one louver-like cross slit each. The louvers allowed you to slow roll the spinnerbaits and still get the willow leafs to turn. It was the brainchild of two men, Gary Gill and George Yonekura.

RMD Revolution Spinnerbait Specifications

Type Spinnerbait
Depth Any
Skirt Material Silicone (hand tied)
Weight 1/2 ounce only
Colors/Patterns 10
Hook Gamakatsu
Additional Features Patented Louvered Blades for extra-slow rolling & unique water displacement
MSRP $9.99

Unfortunately, late in 2010, Gary Gill passed away unexpectedly and left George Yonekura with a decision to make: either continue on with the bait (there was a rather large backlog of requests for product), or let the product just fade away into obscurity.

One of our favorite spinnerbaits is back ...

After a bit of delay to rebrand, reorganize, and update the patent status of the bait, we're happy to report the louvered leaf spinnerbait is back and up to old tricks of catching fish. Only now it is known as the RMD Revolution and features a new head design, simplified colors, only one size (half ounce), but the same great, patented blades.

... with a new name ...

... a new head design (left is new, right is original).

...
simplified color schemes (from 50 down to 10) ...

... but with the same great blades ...

... now patented ...

... and same great components.

Here's another look at the new, modified head design.

Conclusion: George couldn't bring himself to let Gary's customer base down by discontinuing Kevkel's most popular product. Since he had a hand in the bait's creation, George has taken on the responsibility of continuing with the spinnerbait only with a much more simplified lineup - 10 colors instead of 50, and only one size in half an ounce. The skirts are all still hand tied and the blades are all still manually and individually modified. The heads are upgraded with lifelike 3D eyes for a more premium look while the hooks remain Gamakatsu. Make no mistake, this is a carefully crafted and tuned, premium grade spinnerbait.

And of course, they work just as well as before.

Because of the labor involved with crafting these baits, availability is still very limited. In fact, the RMD Revolution is currently only available in two stores, Coyote Bait and Tackle in San Jose, CA and Hi's Tackle Box in South San Francisco. Both stores take phone orders and have the products on their online e-tail stores.
