A look at Abu's Abumatic S spincast reel.

A look at the Abumatic SX

Abumatic S through STX: One type of reel that does not receive enough attention from us are spincast reels. Abu Garcia has offered a complete suite of spincast reels and this year, they refine that suite with nomenclature common to their other lineups. The Abumatic spincast reels are now available in the traditional S, SX, and STX models.

The brand new Abumatic STX.

These spincast reels feature graphite frames, stainless steel front cones, and ergonomic push buttons. They come prespooled with Berkley Trilene XL monofilament fishing line. The Abumatic S features 2 bearings and retails for $25; the Abumatic SX features 3 bearings and retails for $29.99; and the brand new, Abumatic STX features 4 bearings with a retail price of $39.99. Expect these reels to be available about mid September 2015.

Abu's Abumatic 170 represents a step forward in Spincast reel design.

Abumatic 170 Spincast: Abu's Abumatic 170 represents a step forward in Spincast reel design. Featuring a machined body and diecast aluminum front cone, this reel comes with CarbonMatrix drag system that you can adjust with star drag knob! It is the first Spincast reel to have an external star drag adjustment knob.

A look at the new Revo Toro S.

Revo Toro S: Revo's Toro suite is extended for 2016 beginning with the new, Toro S. Now those seeking the power and capacity of the original Revo Toro have the option of a slightly more economical "S" version of the reel featuring 4 stainless steel, corrosion resistant HPCR bearings plus one roller bearing (the original Toro features 6HPCRs + 1), 25 pounds of max drag, and a 5.3:1 gear ratio. The Revo Toro S comes in two sizes, a 50 (14lb/210 yds) and a 60 (14lb/250yds), both in left and right hand retrieve. It will retail for $249.95. Abu is offering a matching Veritas 2.0 Toro rod for $199.95.

Introducing the Revo Toro Beast.

Revo Toro Beast: On the other end of the spectrum, Abu Garcia has created a hybrid reel of sorts combining their two power reels into one with the Toro Beast. Sporting 25 pounds of max drag, the Toro Beast is available in four models (both left and right hand retrieve), two gear ratios and two sizes. Retail on the Toro Beast will be $399.95.

This reel featuers 7 stainless steel HPCR bearings plus one roller bearing, a Carbon Matrix drag, a machined frame with aluminum sideplates, large EVA knobs, 4 pin centrifugal brakes, a synchronized levelwind system and a host of other features. Andrew Wheeler shares, the Ambassadeur Beast is the strongest reel Abu Garcia has ever made!

Conclusion: Abu Garcia never disappoints us at ICAST. First it was a host of new spinning reels, and now a solid list of low profile, and spincast reel introductions capped by an extension of their popular BEAST series of reels. But their not done yet! Next is a look at their new rod introductions for 2016.
