Introduction:
Baitfish imitations are a staple in any Bass angler's tackle box.  From topwaters to swimbaits, there is a huge variety of these baits available to choose from.  Every year, brand new designs are released and companies tweak old favorites to keep things fresh and appeal to more consumers. At ICAST this year, Optimum and Ima showed us their brand new offerings of hard and soft baits.  From drop shotting to deep cranking, their new lineups of baitfish imitations should prove seductive to both fish and angler.

The new Opti Shad (left) and Victory Tail (right) from Optimum Baits.

Optimum Opti Shad and Victory Tail:  These brand new baits are actually a product of a collaboration between Lucky Craft and Optimum.  The Opti Shad comes in a 2” or 4” size and is perfect for fishing alone or as a trailer on something like a chatterbait or swim jig.  The Victory Tail comes in 3” or 5” sizes and features a forked tail.  It will be ideal for several applications like fishing weightless or drop shotting.  Both baits are slated for release around August 1st and can be had in your choice of 10 colors.  Expect both to retail for $4.99 and come in packs of 5 or 6 baits.

The new anniversary swimbait looks like a killer bait for saltwater species as well.

AA 30th Anniversary Shad:  The new refreshed AA 30th Anniversary Shad brings on a few modifications such as a thinner tail design and new scale pattern along the sides of the body.  These will be great fished on a jig head in fresh or saltwater.   Sizes will range up to 6” with availability slated for September.  Pricing was not available but we were told it would be “inexpensive”.

The new Ima Flit promises to be a big producer up shallow.

Ima Floating Flit 120:  The new floating Flit 120 is designed with less weight than the standard 120, and also has a brightly colored bill to make it easier to track during retrieval.  It is ideal fished as a jerkbait or slow rolled and fished as a wakebait.  It measures 4.75” in length with a weight of 3/8oz and is available in 4 colors.  Look for availability in the fall with a price of $17.99.

The new shallow running crankbait from Ima.

Ima Pinjack 200:   The new Ima Pinjack 200 features the same body style as their square bill crankbait, but with a longer lip to dive down to about 7 feet.  It features a tight wobble and narrower bill design to come through cover more easily.  It is 2.25” long, weighs 1/2oz, and is available in 8 colors.  Look for it to hit stores in the fall with a retail of $16.99.

Top notch finishes were evident on all the Ima baits presented.

Optimum and Ima refine their lineup even further with these new offerings.  With smart designs and precise finishes these baits will appeal to those looking to stock their boxes.  We enjoyed getting the product rundowns by Matt Paino and Bill Lowen, and look forward to seeing what's in store next.  With 2013 not too far off, the variety of outstanding products from companies like Ima and Optimum is quite impressive.
