Introduction:
Falcon rods is well respected for building quality rods at an affordable price point. They are also one of the few companies left that builds rods right here in the USA. At the 2012 ICAST show, they unveiled several new models that should get plenty of interest.  With input from several well recognized pros, the rods are designed to meet demanding criteria and offer high performance at a down to earth price.

From top to bottom, Mike McClelland Signature Cara Micro, and  fresh sticks from Jason Christie, Bobby Barrack, and a new Bucoo model.  Note that Bobby's rod is the only one to use the traditional full cork grips.

The new Jason Christie frog rod features the same action and power as the longer “Amistad” model.

Jason Christie Frog rod:  FLW pro Jason Christie helped design this all new rod within the existing Cara T7 casting rod family.  Made to fish soft plastic frogs in thick cover, it features a heavy power rating, fast taper, split grip, and Fuji Alconite guides.  It is 6'11” long and is rated for 15-30lb line and 1/2 to 1 1/2oz lures.  Retail $199.

Bobby Barrack's signature adorns the logo area of his frog rod.

Bobby's Perfect Frog Rod:  While not a new model, the handle has now been cut shorter by 1” allowing you to walk a frog a bit easier.  Pro Bobby Barrack designed this rod specifically for frog fishing around gnarly cover.  It is 7'10” long with extra heavy power and a medium flex, rated at 20-40lb line and 3/8 to 2oz lures.   The new rear handle length is now 9” as opposed to 10” on the old rod.  Retail $219.

Falcon's answer to the explosive umbrella rig craze.

Bucoo Micro Rig rod:  Everyone knows the umbrella rig is the big thing in Bass fishing right now, and Falcon built the new Bucoo Micro Rig rod specifically for this technique.   Not totally just for umbrella rigs, this micro guide rod can also double as a nice rod for baits like jigs and swimbaits.  At a length of 7'6”, it utilizes a heavy power and fast action with a rating of 20-30lb line and 2 3/4-3oz lures.  Retail $149.

Unlike the Cara series, the Bucoo rods all feature foam grips.

Cara Peacock Special:  This new model in the Cara Peacock Bass series is extremely short in length for easier short distance casts under and around jungle cover.  It is a 5'7” medium heavy power rod with a medium flex and is rated for 30-60lb line and 1-3oz lures.

Coastal Casting:  2 new models arrive in the Falcon Coastal casting rod model lineup.  Called the “Capt. Johnny Walker” rods, they feature short lengths and stout power for maximum authority.  These rods use 100% graphite blanks, Fuji guides and reel seats, and full EVA foam grips.

Falcon pro staffers Bobby Barrack and Mike McClelland helped us answer our questions.

While not the flashiest rods on the market, the continued success of Falcon is a result of giving anglers solid fishing tools at a reasonable price.  At this years' ICAST show, we were impressed by the simple, clean look of these rods.  Throw in the fact that Falcon manufactures rods right here in the USA, and that in itself will get the attention of many anglers.
