ICAST 2012 Coverage

Owner's New Stinger Made of ZoWire

Admission: Buyers & Press Only
Manufacturer: Owner
Reviewer: Team TackleTour

Introduction:
Last year at ICAST, Owner returned to traditional offerings showing us what was new in their terminal tackle lines. This year it was much of the same with an extensions and enhancements of sorts of tried and true lines.

Dennis Yamamoto shows us what's new with Owner this year.

ZoWire Trebles: If there is one product that has launched Owner, as terminal tackle company, into prominence, it is their collection of premium treble hooks. Owner's ST-56 3X strong trebles are the standard replacements for everyone and anyone throwing big baits for big bass, but even though anglers do use them for other baits as well, these hooks are a bit heavy and can affect the action of lighter, smaller lures.

ZoWire ST-58 Trebles are sure to be popular.

Enter ZoWire, a new alloy with a higher diameter to strength ratio than the material used in ST-56s allowing Owner to make a hook with the same effective strength, but with a thinner, lighter wire! So now you can have the advantages of 3X strength in a thin diameter, light wire hook! They will be available in sizes #6 - 3/0 and sell in packs of 8 to 5 for $17 - $20 all depending on the size you choose.

Jig Rig Components: Last year, Owner introduced their Jig Rig, a unique weighted hook with tungsten and lead weighted options. This year, they're offering this same rig with a different hook and they're offering the components of the original JigRig sold separately so you can more easily customize it to suit your purposes.

This year, they're offering a different hook option and outfitting the rig with their centering pins for easier rigging.

The wide gap hooks from the JigRig will be available for purchase separately complete with the solid ring attachment.

Both the hooks and the weights for the Jig Rig will be available for purchase separately, but only the lead version of the weights will be sold for now.

The weights will also be available for purchase.

But only the lead version will be available for now.

Conclusion: Prices and availability of the JigRig components were still being worked out but we look forward to their availability shortly. It will be interesting to see how well the new ZoWire hooks will be received. A thinner, lighter, stronger hook with the potential of better hook up ratios because of the thin wire? Seems like a no brainer to us!
