Introduction:
It's been a couple of years since we've had the chance to catch up with Edge Rods, but when we saw Gary Loomis's smiling face at the booth, we knew they must have had something good baking in the rod oven. Here's what we found out.

It's time to catch up with Edge Rods.

First Strike: This rod series, introduced just a couple of years ago quietly rivals their flagship Black Max series of rods worldwide. In fact, it is their best selling rod series in Japan. This year, the company introduced a seven foot eleven (7'11") composite cranking stick built from their new graphite and an S2 fiberglass blanks. Expect this stick to match the other rods in the same series with a retail price of $400.

First Strike has been a global success! New this year is a deep cranking rod featuring a composite blank.

It will have the same woven graphite grip as the other First Strike rods.

Cliff Pace Rods: Cliff Pace has joined the team at Edge Rods as a touring professional and of course, receives his very own, signature series of rods as a result! This series consists of seven (7) rods retailing for $359 each. They are built with split rear grips made of cork, MXN guides by alps (titanium framed guides with Zirconium inserts) and an ALPS AGN reel seat.

Featuring guides and reel seats by ALPS.

These sticks feature a more traditional cork rear grip.

Retail price is set for $359.

Edge Inshore: Complimenting their other lineup of rods is a brand new inshore series built to battle the likes of striped bass and redfish in our coastal waters. This series consists of ten (13) rods built on NFC blanks with stainless steel framed SIC guides and split, braided carbon handles. The Edge Inshore series will retail for $400.

Edge is making a foray into inshore rods this year too.

These sticks will feature contoured graphite handles.

Alex, Khiem, and of course, the one and only Gary Loomis from Edge Rods show us what's new and exciting with the company.

Conclusion: There were many more rods both on display and strictly confidential that Gary discussed with us. Does a surf rod with three different, interchangeable tips to support different lure weights interest you? They're making one. How about a fly rod out of a new material with performance characteristics similar to bamboo? One thing is for certain, with Gary Loomis at the helm, there's no resting on technology and available materials. It is, afterall, how the company maintains its Edge.
