Unfortunately, we missed out on visiting the guys at 3-Tand at the 2014 IFTD show. This new company took home the award for “Best Fly Fishing Reel” at that event, and we wondered what they had up their sleeves for this year. While walking the aisles we made sure to swing by and have a look for ourselves!

Although the sample reel exhibited “TF” labeling, production models will be called the “TX” series.

TX Series Reels: 3-Tand's current TF and T-series reels have received a lot of praise for their quality and performance. Hoping for another big hit, this year 3-Tand had a new TX-series of reels to exhibit. These reels are fully machined from 6061-T6 aluminum and utilize a fully-sealed Nano-CF drag system. Other features of each reel include a Delrin handle, rubberized reel-seat foot, and a patented hidden spool counterweight.

The rear drag features an easy-to-grab knob for effortless adjustments.

The sealed drag puts out over 12-pounds of braking power.

TX reels have ultra-large arbors and are touted as being thinner and lighter than the existing T-series. Several models will be available ranging from 8–14 weight sizes and the reels can be had in your choice of Stealth Black or Titanium Grey colors. Look for pricing (with an included neoprene pouch) to start under $300.

TX spools are narrow for fast line pickup.

The inset rubber on the foot protects reel seats and keeps the reel planted firmly in place.

The new V-Series prototype reel was on hand too, but......

…..all we can provide you with at this point are a few images of this striking reel.

The V-Series has a V-arbor spool configuration.

The guys at 3-Tand put a lot of thought into these reels and it shows!

Conclusion: The new reels from 3-Tand look great and we can't wait to see how they perform on the water. Interested anglers can find a limited supply of TX-80 reels currently available with more becoming available late this year. We think this company has a bring future and we're already curious to see what they have cooking for IFTD 2016!
