Pflueger Gets a New Flagship

Introduction:
Pfleuger has always delivered solid performance at a very good value, but usually when I think of this brand, my impressions are of entry level to mid-market reels. Naturally, this is not the case as the Patriarch, and before that, the Supreme, are both very good intermediate to upper intermediate reels. This year, Pflueger takes things a step further with the introduction of their Patriarch XT, their new flagship suite of reels.

Introducing the new Patriarch XT Casting Reel.

Patriarch XT - Casting: Weighing in at 5.8 ounces, the Patriarch XT comes in at a full half ounce lighter than last year's intro the Patriarch. Sporting an aluminum frame with C45 carbon sideplates, a swept graphite handle, EVA knobs, the Patriarch XT will be available in a right hand retrieve model only with a single, 6.4:1 gear ratio. It will be available in September of 2014 for an MSRP of $249.

and the sideplate is attached so no risk of dropping it overboard.

Patriarch XT - Spinning: The 30 size Patriarch XT spinning reel weighs in at 6.1 ounces! It features a one piece drag knob, a ported aluminum spool, carbon arbor, magnesium body and rotor with carbon fiber inlays throughout. The reel's handle is carbon fiber with an EVA knob. It is offered in two sizes, (30 and 35) with a 5.2:1 gear ratio. They will be available in December 2014 for $249.

Thank you Casey Davidson for walking us through the new Pflueger Patriarch XT line of reels!

Conclusion: Pflueger is really upping their game yet staying true to their roots of providing a lot of reel for a reasonable price. Most other flagship products from other manufacturers are $300 or well over. For $249, the Patriarch XT should prove to be another excellent value from Pflueger.
