Introduction: In recent weeks Daiwa Zillion reels have been on sale, which is always an indication something new is coming around the corner. Sure enough Daiwa has refreshed the entire line this ICAST, introducing new Zillion reels that combine the company's Free Floating Spool and TWS design.

Meet Daiwa's redesigned Zillion, now with the T-Wing (TWS) System

The current Zillion reels are already well respected by anglers for their performance and quality and we anticipated that the new reels would be updated this season with the latest materials but what surprised us was that Daiwa integrated their T-Wing TWS system which we first saw in the Tatula into this series.

Pro Angler Brent Ehrler is excited about the new Zillion

The TWS hybrid system is a simpler take on the T-Wing than the original complete flip up design pioneered on the T3 casting reels. The TWS T-Wing System has a much wider aperture than a traditional line guide which reduces angles and line friction wherever line is peeling off the spool, the result is a unique cast that not only feels different but is designed to be less affected by friction and ultimately longer.

The reel features an aluminum frame and Zaion side plate (gear side)

The new Zillion reels look more aggressive and are darker in color than the outgoing version. The free floating A7075 aluminum alloy spool is mounted within a lightweight aluminum frame but the gear side sideplate now makes use of the company's durable Zaion carbon composite material for increased rigidity and weight reduction.

The reel makes use of Magforce-Z cast control

A large 90mm handle has cutouts for reduced weight and behind that is a drag star that is also now constructed out of Zaion. The new Zillion also features oversized carbon drag washers that is specified to deliver 13.2lbs. of drag pressure.

BASS Pro Angler Yasuke Miyazaki talked about how much smoother and more refined the reel

The new Zillion will be available in three retrieve speeds, High Speed (6.3:1), Hyper Speed (7.3:1) and Power (5.5:1). All of these reels weigh in at only 7.5oz. which is over 1oz. lighter than the previous version thanks to the Zaion components.

The new Zillion reels are designed to perfectly pair with Daiwa;s redesigned Zillion rods

We like the fact that Daiwa maintains the rail bumpers on top of the reel which tie it to the original series. These are color coordinated with the locking plate on the handle and the colors help identify the reels. The gold is for the high speed, red indicates hyper speed and stealthy black is found on the power model. All of the new Zillion reels will retail for $299.95 and are designed to pair with the company's newly revamped lineup of Zillion casting rods.
