Introduction:
13 Fishing made a big splash last year when the came out with their Concept series of fishing reels. This year, they continue to up their game with what could very well be the lightest production low profile bait casting reel on the market.

Introducing the 5.14 ounce Concept KP reel from 13 Fishing!

Concept KP: Featuring 13 Fishing's own blend of magnesium alloy and matched with their Airfoil Carbon sideplates, the Concept KP tips scales at 5.14 ounces - a stat we tested and verified right there on the floor of ICAST 2014.

This reel feels liggggghhhhhht!

Every consideration was made to save weight.

Normally, reels this light are tuned for finesse applications, but 13 Fishing assures us, this is an all purpose casting reel with a smooth "Bull Dog Carbon Drag" they've tested to thirteen (13) pounds of drag pressure.

The Hex 13 spool is a work of art

We even verified the reel's weight while at the show.

Other features include their Hex 13 spool, Hex13 drag star, and Arrowhead line guide designed to reduce line drag for maximum casting distance. The reel comes with a carbon handle and EVA knobs.

Custom EVA knobs.

Thanks to Matt Baldwin for showing us the new KP. When it comes to pushing the light weight baitcaster envelope this reel is close to breaking barriers

Conclusion: The only downside of this exciting new reel from 13 Fishing? No left handed versions are planned for the near future. The cost for tooling of this reel weighed against projected sales figures simply do not line up in favor of moving forward on those lines for now. These are arguments we've heard in the past from the larger, more established manufacturers so it must be doubly difficult for a relatively new company like 13 Fishing to accomplish the same thing. Either way, the new Concept KP reel should make a lot of noise within the consuming public even at the MSRP of $480.
