We’re very accustomed to meeting the large manufacturers and new, up and coming small manufacturers looking to make a name for themselves each and every year at ICAST. Imagine our surprise when we happened by a very familiar small bait manufacturing company out of Southern California. Pepper Jigs has the distinction of taking the #2 spot in our recent SpinnerBait shootout together with tying for first place in our 2009 Jig Roundup. We’re always impressed with the quality their product so we were more than happy to finally meet the man behind the spice, Eugene Covello.
The new Pepper Jigs Punch Weights.
One new item and one intriguing enhancement are in store for Pepper Jigs in 2011. First is their new tungsten punch weight. What’s so new and exciting about a tungsten punch weight you ask? How about punch weight with an actual collar up on which you can attach a skirt? Just add your favorite hook and you’re ready to go!
Pepper Jigs refines their already well made spinnerbait with this plastic collar ...
Price points are still up in the air, but look for Pepper Jigs to offer these new skirted and unskirted tungsten weights in three eights to one and a half ounce sizes with quarter ounce increments in between.
Designed to keep the skirt separated from the hook shank providing more flare and body in the water as the bait is retrieved.
The rather simple but intriguing enhancement to their product line goes to their bladed products. Pepper Jig’s spinnerbaits for the coming year and beyond will now feature a collar around the base of the skirt forcing the individual silicone strands away from each other for a fuller, more robust profile in the water. It’s attention to small details like this as to why we’ve come to covet the product from small bait manufacturers like Pepper Jigs who work hard to build product with a quality difference.
Eye Surrender Shades offer a lifetime warranty in a $40 pair of sunglasses.
Those familiar with Pepper Jigs know where Pepper goes, EyeSurrender is sure to follow, yet through all this time, this is also the first time we’ve met this sunglass manufacturer. Whether you’re a sight fisherman or not, a good pair of shades can go a long way towards making your day on the water more comfortable and effective.
They're made of the frame material as other popular brands too.
In most cases, a quality pair of optics translates to an equally pricey entry point. $100 - $200 is not an unheard of price for a quality pair of shades. EyeSurrender is here to shatter that mold with a single line of shades built with TR-90 nylon frames for strength and stability (the same frame material used by Costa Del Mar), a scratch resistant Tri-Acetate Polarized (TAC) lense, a 400% UV rating, unlimited lifetime warranty, and if that weren’t enough, each EyeSurrender pair of shades comes with its own hard case with cleaning cloth included. The price for a pair of EyeSurrender shades? $40.
