Introduction:
Everyone longs for the end
of the year holidays that bring with them time away from work, precious family
time, and the anticipation of many things thoughtful and gift-wrapped. For
anglers, the anticipation only grows as the calendar turns and the New Year
dawns because this spells the season of consumer fishing shows! Yes folks, it’s
that time of year again and first on our plate, in its third year since
partnering with the American Sportfishing Association (ASA), is the San
Francisco Fred Hall Fishing Tackle & Boat Show.
Each exhibit area of the Fred Hall
show is filled with fresh and saltwater boats
The Fred Hall Show brings
anglers the opportunity to check out and buy the latest in manufacturers’ rods,
reels, and other tackle and accessories. In addition to seeing and playing with
the new products, anglers can also indulge in the many fresh and saltwater
demonstrations presented throughout the day. This year, the Fred Hall Show
features one saltwater and one freshwater mobile aquarium both sponsored by
Triton Boats, where anglers can attend seminars to learn the local secret
techniques and locations for many species of fish on the entire West Coast.
Brand new this year is the
introduction of the restructured Bongo Fashion Show. What’s this you ask? It is,
essentially, the New Products Showcase but featuring the Bongo girls modeling
fishing apparel and the new fishing gear from all exhibiting manufacturers. This
part of the event is a good chance to rest those tired feet while enjoying the
great music and entertainment as new products are introduced held in the hands
of the attractive Bongo girls.

The Shimano reel repair
seminar and knot tying clinic isn’t new to anyone, but it is new to this
particular show. This is the first time Shimano has appeared in the San
Francisco show, and as we glanced at this area, all seats were filled with
additional anglers on looking over from all around. Shimano technicians are
there to help any anglers with questions and to teach everyone how to maintain
their own reels with the appropriate tools. The knot tying clinic features
representatives from Izorline who are teaching anglers how to tie various knots
including proper way to join braided spectra to monofilament lines.

seminars are given infront of the saltwater mobile tank
In addition to the events
mentioned above, there are events for fly fishermen, hunters, and even
wakeboarders. Yes, an indoor wakeboarding demonstration is present at the 2006
Fred Hall Show where professionals are performing tricks on the “Slider” which
is an apparatus much like a rail used to conduct tricks before dismounting.
Long Range
techniques and other tips are given at this seminar
Demonstrations and events
are both educational and fun for anglers and are among the many must see items
at the show, but we all know why TackleTour cover these shows. Though ICAST is
still fresh on all the editors’ minds, this was our first chance to see the
final production models for 2006. Many of them featured changes improving upon
the prototypes that we handled at the trade show last July, so without further
ado, we now bring you the exciting new products from the floors of the Fred Hall
Show...
