Daiwa’s New Daiwa Tatula Elite Rods make Carbon Guides “Affordable” (continued)

Ish's New Frog Rod: One of the most interesting rods in the new lineup is West Coast Pro, Ish Monroe’s new Frog Rod, and yes it comes with the AGS guides. Power and sensitivity? Daiwa is making a big statement here that the AGS guides can stand up to the rigors of frog fishing, which demands a lot from the blank and guides ability to muscle fish out of heavy cover.

One of the most interesting is Ish Monroe's new Frog Rod, a beefy stick with AGS guides!

Ish’s new rod is a heavy powered fast action 7’4” launcher that is rated to handle up to 55lb. braided line and baits between ˝-1 ˝ oz. in weight. The rod may be designed for frog fishing but no doubt it can also handle some flip and punch work as well as catapulting smaller swimbaits.

These carbon fiber guides are lighter than traditional metal guides and because they are denser they are also more sensitive. Daiwa is making a big statement about their confidence in the durability of these guides by putting them on an application specific  frog rod

In terms of reels the new rods will pair well with any of the Daiwa’s low profile baitcasters and anglers can save a little money by strapping on the very capable Fuego CT ($99), but these rods really were made to match the Tatula reels, and there are many to choose from including the affordable Tatula CT ($129) and the high capacity Tatula-HD ($199).

The perfect reel for the frog rod? The Daiwa Tatula SV TWS

To me the reel that looks the best on the new rods, and is ideal for Ish’s new frog rod, is the brand new Tatula SV TWS which matches beautifully in styling and brings a A7075 aircraft-grade aluminum SV spool, CRBB (Corrosion Resistant Ball Bearings) and U.T.D (Ultimate Tournament Drag) to manhandle those belligerent frog fish.

Time to see what this combo can do on the water...stay tuned!

It is interesting to me how such a subtle difference such as the guide feet can change the character of these rods so significantly, and yet just a few minutes of fishing with them is all it takes to discern the personality differences.

The entire lineup of new Daiwa Tatula Elite Rods are interesting but it is the AGS equipped ones that are probably the most exciting. While not “cheap” they are certainly “affordable” when considering that Daiwa has managed to equip these rods with the innovative AGS carbon framed guides and make them available to anglers at half the cost of the Steez SVF rods, which were previously the only way that anglers could experience the benefits of these slick components.
