Impressions:
On many tournaments you
can see Professional Bass Angler Kevin VanDam cranking to get his winning bag. He whips hard and cranks fast. Quantum had to accommodate his
aggressive style in the design of their Tour KVD cranking rods.
Quantum's Tour
KVD Crankbait rod is a rich red color, other Tour rods by other pros will all
feature a distinct color of their own
The Tour KVD rod line
consists of six models available from 6’ 6” to 7’ 10”, and is designed with the
pro’s specifications, being burgundy red and in lengths that he likes to fish
while running different lures that dive at various depths. The rod is
constructed with a composite e-glass material, a blend of fiberglass and
graphite to provide the appropriate action. The rod is matched with
the new style Fuji ACS reel seat, Hardloy guides applying the Concept spacing,
and EVA split grip design. The Tour KVD rods also carries Quantum’s Limited
Lifetime Warranty and retails for only $149.95.
This rod is
designed to Kevin VanDam's specifications for crankbait fishing
Lab Results:
For the Crankbait Rod Wars
we chose to test two of the Tour KVD casting rods: the TKVD664M for the short
cast and shallow water crankbaiting and the longer TKVD745M for the larger
baits.

The 6’6” cranking rod, as
expected, is categorized under our shallow cranking sticks. It has an average
RoD value of 2.31 and appears to offer more of a fast taper even though
Quantum rates it as having a moderate taper. This stick has an average RoD value of 2.15, falling within our medium
crankbait stick category.
Field Tests:
The Tour KVD rods were one of the candidates that made it to our rod war tests
in El Novillo, Mexico. It was tested against the largemouth bass in those warmer
waters along with field trials in California lakes and the Delta system for
black bass. The rods were paired with the Quantum low speed Energy PT that was
recently reviewed and most recently with the new Abu Garcia Revo SX. I tossed
shallow and lipless crankbaits with the shorter rod and Norman medium diving
crankbaits with the 745M.
