Event Article: 2009 ISE Sacramento

Custom lures, Pros, and more at the 2009 International Sportsmen's Expo Sacramento (continued)

Owner: Known for their ultra sharp hooks Owner now has a new weapon for swimbaits and introduces the Beast™ Hooks with TwistLOCK® Centering-Pin Spring (CPS) are designed for weedless-style rigging of larger plastics like big swimbaits, flukes, tubes and creature baits. With its TwistLOCK® Centering-Pin Spring (CPS - patent pending) attached to the hook eye, baits can be permanently secured by inserting the pin in the center of the nose of a soft plastic, which can then be screwed onto the TwistLOCK® coil spring.

Owner's Beast hooks are designed for better weedless style rigging of large plastics

The Quick-drop shank below eye allows for rigging fat-headed baits, and maximum gap allows for improved hook sets because of better bait clearance. The non-movable weight attached (5130W) not only helps to sink or swim a rigged bait down into the strike zone, but because the weight is positioned so low on the shank it results in a proper keel effect.

The hooks feature the company's TwistLOCK centering pin spring

An interesting back-story behind these new hooks is that the idea was actually born at this time one year ago right at the ISE show when angler Corey Fenske and Dennis Yamamoto of Owner were discussing the need for a better solution. The weighted Beast hooks retail from 4.79 to 7.49 depending on size and the 4/0, 6/0, and 8/0 come with 3 per pack while the monstrous 10/0 hooks come 2 per pack. They are available now at retailers and e-tailers including Tackle Warehouse and Monster Tackle.

Notice the hookpoint well above the eye which allows for true flat rigging

Viscous: Quickly rising in popularity Viscous lines are a line made right here in the USA. The Alabama based company has a complete range of lines including their Ultimate Strike which is designed for high tensile strength, very low stretch, improved knot strength, and superior castability. Endorsed by Bassmaster Elite Anglers Jeff Reynolds and Pete Ponds the line is becoming well known as an excellent topwater line due to its excellent casting performance and impact characteristics.

Viscous Ultimate is gaining popularity as a quality topwater line

The company also offers all purpose lines, fluorocarbon, and braid in their lineup. All of their lines are engineered with an appropriate balance of power finesse and while you would expect a made in the USA line to be more expensive Viscous lines are actually among the most aggressively priced on the market. For example a 250yd. spool of Viscous Fluorocarbon 10lb only retails for 9.99. Viscous lines are available at a plethora of dealers now.

Built for extreme sub surface applications this is one fluorocarbon that is designed to be premium and still not break the bank

New for 2009 is the affordable All Purpose line which features a good balance of sensitivity, abrasion resistance, and low memory

Also new for 2009 is the Viscous spectra fiber based braid for extreme sensitivity and reaction
