ICAST Coverage Day 2 (Rods) - Perfectly matching reels in application,
balance, and style (continued)

St.Croix:
This is yet another
exciting year for St. Croix as they strengthen their Legend brand by introducing
an entirely new series of saltwater rods, the Legend Inshore. Like other
high-end St. Croix rods, these are hand-crafted in Park Falls, Wisconsin using
St. Croix’s SC IV blanks in a nice Belize Blue finish. When you hold the Legend
Inshore rod you’ll notice how light they are. That’s because the Legend Inshore
series rods incorporate the latest technologies such as IPC and ART, and uses
REC Recoil spinning and casting guides along with Fuji SiC Titanium frame tip
tops. All components on these rods are 100% rustproof which help make them a
great rod choice for inshore anglers. The Legend Inshore rods will have 8
spinning and 4 casting models, and prices range from $300 to $330.

Tournament inshore
Last year we saw a redesign
of the Premier series and this year St. Croix did a complete overhaul on the
Tidemaster Inshore series to increase strength, sensitivity, and to give it even
more hook-setting power. “Our main focus with the redesign of the Tidemaster
rods was to take a very popular series and dramatically improve it by re-tooling
the blanks with new mandrel and patterns, upgrade the guides, cork and
appearance – plus increase the selection,” says Jeff Schluter, St. Croix’s VP of
Marketing.

What we liked most about
this particular series are the impressive 3-piece travel rods. Now anglers can
go on adventures and bring their favorite rod with them. These rods are now
available and retails for $110 to $200.

Attractive graphics...let it be
known that the Legend Inshore has arrived
The Legend Tournament Bass
series has been a big hit and this year St. Croix introduces new additions, one
for crankbaits and another for flipping. The Magnum Cranker is made to run the
large deep diving crankbaits. These big lipped cranks require the right rod and
action to get down, and also not to strain the anglers as they crank the lure.
The Big Gulp is a lightweight 7’11” one-piece flipping stick in heavy power and
moderate fast in action. The Legend Tournament Bass Magnum Cranker will retail
for $230 and the Big Gulp for $250.

These rods look "clean" and
feature a simple yet elegant design, something we have grown to love about these
well-designed rods
We have the Legend Tournament
Bass and Walleye series, and now there’s the Legend Tournament Musky series.
These rods make use of St. Croix’s ART and IPC technologies to produce the
perfect performance attributes Musky anglers look for.

The Legend Tournament
Musky series are five strong which come in these models: Downsizer – designed
for smaller lures. The Jerk – perfect action for running jerkbaits. Lipstick – a
moderate fast action rod for big lipped crankbaits. Top-n-Tail – made for
topwater and also bucktails. And lastly but not least the Big Dawg – for tossing
large rubber baits and large 8-10” wood jerkbaits.
