GREAT
Introduction: Is there a class of fishing garment
that Simms doesn’t make these days? From foul weather gear to solar shirts it
seems like the company has taken the fishing world by storm. One garment that
seems to be a staple among bass anglers is the good old fashioned “hoody,” and
while Simms does have traditional cotton based pullover hoodies, it is no
surprise that they have introduced a premium technical version as well. Meet the
Rogue Hoody, a new take on an old favorite.

Keiko sports the Simms Rogue Hoody in Camo Pattern
Impressions:
Most people associate Simms with fishing garments but the company’s apparel is
often stylish enough that even those who do not have the “bug” would be willing
to sport one of these pieces just to walk around town. While there are a lot of
Simms garments that are designed with a specific fishing application in mind
there are also many choices in the company’s sportswear collection that possess
broader appeal. These garments range from pants and surf shorts to graphic tees
and hoodies. When it comes to hoodies Simms has a few choices including standard
silkscreened pullovers to more technical garments like the Rogue Fleece Hoody.
This hoody features a full zip
down the center
The Rogue is
the only hoody that Simms offers which features a full center front zipper
design and is constructed out of a 100% Polyester soft-shell fabric. Because
Simms employs this outer polyester shell it also can get very creative with the
patterns that it is able to offer. More traditional patterns include coal and
black, and anglers looking for something with a little more personality can
select the modern looking Camo pattern. The Camo pattern is one of my favorite
and is a Simms take on camouflage, featuring a break up pattern that weaves in
some of the company’s own logos into a very practical garment. If you are a
backcountry angler and desire stealth then this is the pattern for you.
There is a zippered chest pocket
which can accommodate a fly box or an iPod
In terms of
comfort this hoody is among the fastest to put on with the center zip design,
and the fleece liner provides a soft and comfortable surface against layered
clothing or the skin on your arms. Keiko absolutely loved this particular
garment, so much so that we almost didn’t get it back to complete our field
tests.
