Lure Review

Hit That Hole with the Chippawa RB DD Blade by Nishine Lure Works (continued)

As a running back, Frank Gore has been successful because he is also a straight ahead runner. Hand him the ball, and he goes right to work. No dancing around in the backfield looking for the hole, he just puts his head down and goes. Similarly, Nishine's Chippawa RB DD Blade Crankbait doesn't dance around in the top of the water column. When you crank your handle, it goes right to work diving to where it needs to run.

The blue eyes are sinister

Hit the bottom, and it bounces around deflecting off would be tacklers frankly better than Frank Gore. When that tackle does eventually come and the DD Blade gets hung up, the bait has good buoyancy and does a decent job backing up out of the pile, but it doesn't bounce up like a running back straight out of college. It's more like that cagey veteran taking its time to get up making sure to milk that clock. Occasionally, you have to give the bait a hand by motoring over to it and changing the angle of your pull to help free it from that linebacker that won't let go.

Hooks are by Ishikawa

Design/Ergonomics: Nishine Lure Works's Chippawa RB DD Blade Crankbait is available in 9 artistically rendered colors with the craw patterns having the most detail. The color combos in general are carefully executed with the blend between top, side, and belly colors done extremely well both in execution and the way the colors compliment one another. These are very well thought out patterns.

The Chippawa RB DD Blade Crankbait retails for $15.99

Price & Application: Priced at $15.99 per copy, Nishine's Chippawa RB DD Blade Crankbait is priced at a premium worthy of their JDM quality. That extra flash with the attached willow leaf crank gives the bait unique appeal in the ten foot range and is a good option to give these fish something they may not have seen before.

Pluses and Minuses:

+ Casts really well - Can be difficult to free from those eventual snags now and then
+ Willow leaf blade adds a touch of flash and can be easily removed when a more subtle bait is required - Not cheap for a crankbait but worth the money considering features and quality
+ Finishes are very well executed
+ Bounces off obstacles fairly well

Conclusion: I'm sure the "RB" in this bait's name does not stand for running back, but that's what I'm reminded of when fishing the Chippawa RB DD Blade Crank.

The biggest question I had when tying this bait on for a test was how that blade would behave. Intuition tells me it will foul with the hooks during the retrieve and mess up the bait's trajectory, but of course, Nishine would never release it if that were so. Naturally it is not. Instead, that added bit of flash the tiny little willow leaf blade does deliver gives me the confidence it'll attract more attention and increase the chances of getting bit.

Nishine Lure Works's Chippawa RB DD Blade Crank has quickly become one of my favorites

That combined with the fact this bait actually runs silent gives it a unique allure that fish simply aren't used to seeing and what better way to score a lot of points than to present a defense something it hasn't seen before? If you appreciate attention to detail, subtle nuances and tweaks to make your bait unique, and color patterns that appear both natural and artistic, I'd recommend sampling a bait or three from Nishine Lure Works and a good place to start would be with the Chippawa RB DD Blade.
