Abu's New Mid-Line Low Profile Series and a Revo 9.0:1 !!

Admission: Buyers & Press Only
Manufacturer: Abu Garcia

Introduction:
While the major story with Abu Garcia's introductions at ICAST this year surround the resurgence of their round casting reels, there are refinements to their low profile lineups as well. Revo received a huge makeover last year, and this year, it's Orra's turn. Here's a look at what Abu Garcia has in store for us with their mid-level suite of reels.

Abu's new Orra line sits right between MAX and REVO.

Orra SX: The Orra SX features what Abu is calling an X-Craftic alloy frame. It's an aluminum alloy. They cap off the reel on either side with graphite sideplates and fill the reel out with Duragear brass gearing, a PowerDisk drag system, and their MagTrax (magnetic) braking system. The Orra SX is specified at 7.3 ounces, comes in two retrieve ratios and will be available in both left and right hand retrieve for $99.95.

The SX is only $99.95.

Orra Winch: Orra receives a new sibling this year - one built to do all the dirty work. That's right, the Winch makes its way to Abu's mid-level suite of reels and it does so with the same moxy as its Revo cousin. This reel is built for one specific purpose in mind - cranking. With its low 5.4:1 gear ratio and extended handle, the Orra Winch is built to do everything its Revo cousin can do but at half the price. MSRP on this reel is $99.95.

The Orra Winch promises to be a very popular reel.

Orra Inshore: The Orra Inshore is Abu Garcia's answer to those cost conscious anglers who are searching for a reel engineered for harsh environments. The Inshore features upgrades even over its other Orra siblings with a Carbon Matrix hybrid drag system and six High Performance Corrosion Resistant (HPCR) bearings found on all of Abu Garcia's higher end reels. There is only one retrieve ratio available (7.1:1) and this reel is only available in right hand retrieve. MSRP is set at $149.95.

Looking for an affordable Inshore reel? This could be it.

The Orra Inshore will be available in both right and left hand retrieve for only $149.95.

Revo Rocket: Of course, in the battle that has become a race to see who can build the fastest low profile reel on the market, Abu Garcia could not leave ICAST without taking a shot across the bow of the other manufacturers. What better tool with which to take that shot than their new Revo Rocket. With an unbelievable 9.0:1 gear ratio, the Rocket is making claim to the title of Fastest in Show low profile reel at ICAST this year and Abu Garcia is backing the reel up with a host of standard Revo features like HPCR bearings, Carbon Matrix drag system, Duragear-2 gearing, and an aluminum frame and sideplates. The Revo Rocket will be available in both left and right hand retrieve and is set to retail for an MSRP of $299.95 and will be available in September.

Revo does get reinforcements this year - a Rocket.

With a 9.0:1 retrieve ratio!

Conclusion: Abu Garcia continues to dazzle us first last year with a total revamp of their Revo lineup and now this year, with a revamp and extension of the Orra lineup. And just when we thought we wrapped our heads around Orra, out shoots the brand new Revo Rocket. We can hear the chatter in our discussion forum already - what applications would best suit a reel that can retrieve up to 37 inches of line in one turn of the handle? Rest assured the staff here at TackleTour intends to find out!
