ICAST 2013 Coverage

More Lucky Offerings From 13 Fishing (continued)

Teardrop Reel: Looking like a spinning/baitcasting reel hybrid, we have to admit this thing looks pretty cool. The new Teardrop ice fishing reel sports a sleek composite body, Japanese high-spin bearings, and a carbon drag. An oversized line window reduces ice buildup and ensures easy operation when cranking on the double paddle EVA grips. Teardrop reels come in both left and right hand models at a price of $119.99. Be on the lookout for these around September 15th.

What is the 13 Fishing Teardrop reel?

The Teardrop actually makes sense when you think about it, this premium ice reel combines the best attributes of different form factors and delivers a higher level of refinement than you would normally see in an ice reel

Ricky Teschendorf and Matt Baldwin showed us the company's quality ice fishing combos. It is obvious the team at 13 Fishing are all about fun and it shows, this new company isn't afraid to take chances and push the envelope

Baitcasting Reels: No, this is not a typo. We were lucky enough to see and hold some of the new baitcasting reels that are planned to be released in early 2014. Rather than just re-branded reels, these will be made from the ground up using proprietary technology that Matt Baldwin of 13 Fishing is working on. We can't divulge any other details at the moment, but prototype versions we handled seemed quite promising.

Another example of a 13 Fishing reel, the Black betty Inline Ice Reel. It is only a matter of time until the company will roll out new baitcasters designed for bass anglers

Accessories: The guys at 13 Fishing like to have fun, and that fun theme carries over into their accessories. With apparel names like “awesome sauce”, “guy on a buffalo”, and “swag”, it's pretty evident these guys are all about keeping things lighthearted. Whether you are sitting on a bucket in sub-freezing temperatures or chasing bonefish in the Bahamas, they make a range of apparel to suit your needs. Oh, they make stickers as well!

Jim Coble President of 13 Fishing and his team are on a roll and have us excited about what is yet to come from this fast growing brand

Conclusion: For being such a new company, 13 Fishing seems to really “get it”. Even though their prices are very affordable, the quality of everything we saw at the show seemed excellent. Their lineup expands in a big way this year, and we expect the brand to keep growing rapidly in the years ahead. We hope to get our hands on one of their latest offerings very soon and will offer it up in a full review at a later date. Stay tuned!
