Introduction: AhiUSA/Promar is known most of all for their quality nets
and this year they redesigned a number of nets after our review as well as released new Glow in the
dark Sabo Squid Heads for targeting a complete range of saltwater fish.

Newly redesigned ProMesh hook
resistant landing net
Promar ProMesh Net (2010 version): At the
end of 2008 we published a
review on the
Promar ProMesh net and although it was a favorable review there were
definitely areas that we noted which had room for improvement. Promar answered with the new 2011 version
of the ProMesh landing nets.

Jason goes over the improvements
which pretty addressed our cons from our review
The new ProMesh Series of Hook Resistant nets make
use of
a new netting design. The older model had small holes which kept hooks out but if you
did get a hook into the netting it was somewhat tough to get them out. The new
netting pattern is designed with an oval shape that keeps the hooks from snagging easily but if
it happen to get a hook in you have a much wider gap to dehook your lure from the net.

Handle detached for easier
portability
In addition we mentioned that some metal parts on
the older version of the net corroded during testing. This has now been
addressed and the new net features metal
components constructed out of stainless steel.

Three difference sizes of the
ProMesh
Though all these improvements were made Promar actually
dropped the price. The suggested retail price of the 2010 version of the Promar ProMesh in
the 36 inch length is now only $54.99 compared to the $59.99 price which was what
it was when we reviewed it previously.

Introducing a new Glow in the Dark
Sabo Squid Head
Ahi Sabo Squid Heads: Last year at ICAST
AhiUSA introduced the slick looking Sabo Squid Heads that feature a lead core with an outer
acrylic shell. The colors available in 2009 some effective patterns with
minimal glow to them, just a slight glow on the edges. This year they are
introducing a full glow in the dark Squid Head that will be killer in deeper
water for multiple species of fish.

Available colors
Now anglers can get the Sabo Squid Head in these
exciting colors - Brown, Green, Pink, Blue, and Glow(new). Sizes come in 1/2,
3/4, 1, and 1.5 ounces though new heavier sizes are being worked out right now
in the same head dimensions. The Squid Heads are available now and will retail
for a very reasonable price of $4.99 to $5.99.

Thanks Jason Morton for going over
the new products with us
Conclusion:
Promar and AhiUSA had other exciting products to showcase at ICAST but these are
the two that primarily caught our attention. The Promar ProMesh Series of hook
resistant landing nets are now redesigned and improved. Still able to keep hooks
away but now easier to remove the hook if it does get in. This is much preferred
over the previous design, which while very clever didn't perform as well in real
world testing. The AhiUSA Sabo Squid Heads
continue to be popular and now the new Glow in the Dark model will be even more
popular for targeting fish in the depths.
