Completely new is the Abu Garcia
Orra SX
The Orra SX features the same low profile design as the Revo series and while it may not beneift from the most advanced features, there's still a load of
quality features in this great value

graphite sideplates. Housed inside this sturdy frame is 7+1 bearings that gives
the reel it's smooth casts and retrieves.

Even at $99 the Orra SX gets the
new Pitch Centrifugal Brake System
The Orra SX does get Abu's new Pitch Centrifugal
Brake system described earlier, Duragear
brass gears to power it's 6.4:1 speed ratio, and a Power Disk
Drag system. This new value reel weighs in at 8.71
ounces, holds 145 yards of 12 pound test monofilament, and in September 2009 it will retail
for only $99.95.

Great value, feature packed, and
good overall construction
Soron SX Spinning Reel:
The Abu Garcia Sorön™ STX quickly became one of the most popular freshwater and
saltwater spinning reels on the market. Now the STX is joined by the Sorön SX,
with many of the same strong features but at a lower price.
The SX is available in five sizes, from the diminutive SX10 to the hefty SX70.
All five models are based on the X-Cräftic alloy body and body cover for
corrosion resistance. The 6 HPCR™ (High Performance Corrosion Resistant)
bearings and IAR bearing are built for corrosion resistance as well making this
reel ideal for freshwater and saltwater applications.

Last year the Soron STX, this year
the Soron SX
The multi-washer Carbon Matrix™ Drag System is extremely smooth even under heavy
loads and is sealed for added corrosion protection. With Duragear™ gears, the SX
will be reliable for years. Each reel is packaged with two spools for optimum
line selection versatility. The superline spool is equipped with O-ring inserts
on the spool to prevent braided line from spinning on the spool. Anglers no
longer need to spool monofilament backing when using superline. The other spool
is a traditional spool without the O-ring.

test FireLine. All three reels have a gear ratio of 5.1:1. Both the SX60 and
SX70 have a gear ratio of 4.8:1. Weighing 14.9 ounces, the SX60 has a line
capacity of 350 yards of 14-pound test FireLine. The SX70 weighs 20.3 ounces
with a line capacity of 300 yards of 20-pound test FireLine. Retail price for the 10, 20, and 40 size is only

The new Abu Garcia Cardinal 400i series of freshwater spinning reels offers
Stealth Oscillation for a quieter, smoother retrieve and improved line lay on
the spool.
Filling the niche between the Cardinal 300i and Cardinal 500 ALBi, the new 400i
family is built on a lightweight advance polymeric body and rotor. Additional
features include a 7+1 bearing configuration. The Everlast Bail System is heavy
duty for durability and long life. The bail won’t flex or bend out of shape. All

The 6.3-ounce Cardinal 400Ui is ideal for ultralight situations where 2, 3 and

Kalex
Round Reel: The popularity of Abu Garcia's round reels continue to be
strong all around the world. This year at ICAST they introdued a new round
casting reel called the Kalex. The Kalex features 4 German made stainless steel bearings and a corrosion
resistant IAR German made bearing. The drag consists of a multi-disk drag system
that's built to provide smooth drag force through the entire range, and a 6-pin centrifugal brake system.

The Kalex is a new affordable reel
yet it's durable and high performing like other Abu Garcia round reels
The Anti Distortion Spool (ADS) won’t distort or
torque under a heavy load. The spool bearings are located outside of the spool
reducing the chance of the reel binding under the strain of large fish. In
addition the reel has a synchronized levelwind system with a titanium coated
line guide and line out alarm (on the Model 60/61). To lower the profile of the
reel on the rod the reel foot is recessed.
When available in September 2009, two sizes of the Kalex will be offered, both in left and
right hand versions and both with a gear ratio of 5.9:1. The Kalex 50 weighs
10.8 ounces and can hold up to 180 yards of 14-pound test monofilament fishing
line. The 11.7-ounce Model 60 has a line capacity of 245 yards of 14-pound test
mono. MSRP for the 50 and 51 size will be $79.95 and 60 and 61 size for $84.95.

Abu Garcia's Andrew Wheeler with
the upgraded Revos
Conclusion: This Fall Abu Garcia gets
aggressive as they release new reels and upgrade
popular products that already exist within the series. The new Revo Toro Winch is a powerful, high line
capacity reel that has an extremely low gear ratio to handle fish and big baits
alike. The Revo series, including the high end Revo STX all gets upgraded and the STX now has
benefits from updated features such as the Infini Brake System. Abu also caters
to mainstream anglers with the low profile Orra SX and Kalex round reels, both builds
feel very
solid and represent a great overall value. The team at Abu knows they have a
good thing in the Revo series, and the line continues to gain momentum with an
increasingly robust total offering.
