Introduction:
Wes Logan is one of the rising stars of BASS's Elite Series tour. He claimed his first victory in just his second year and followed that up with a second place finish on the very next tournament. He's finished in the top ten at least seven times. With a resume like that, how could he not have his own signature series fishing rod? Well, that wait is over as he and ARK Fishing International have gotten together to do just that. Here's our look at one of those rods from that series, the WES75MHFC Wes Logan 100K.

Impressions: ARK Fishing International's Wes Logan Signature Series WES75MHFC 100K is a seven foot, five inch (7'-5") stick with a line and lure rating that falls perfectly within the prototypical "medium heavy" spec. It features a split rear grip design with a mix of cork at the reel seat, and EVA foam at the butt end. Guides are ARK Fishing's own and feature stainless steel frames with what they are calling NanoForce inserts. Pretty sure they're not manufactured on Ork, but I could be mistaken.

ARK Fishing International with another debut, the Wes Logan Signature Series

Fresh out of the shipping tube and in hand, the WES75MHFC is surprisingly light and crisp - especially for its length. Given its price point, I was genuinely surprised. An appointment with the scale reinforced that initial impression with the stick weighing just four ounces (4.0oz), but of course, with its length, there's a bit of tip heaviness to the build. Nevertheless, I was anxious to get this stick out on the water to see what it could do.

Real World Tests: I paired the 100K stick with another new product from ARK Fishing International, the Gravity 8 casting reel. The G8 takes over from the G7 as ARK's new top end casting reel although the step up in price is only $40. I spooled the G8 with a supply of Sunline's new AMZ braid in 50lb and topped that line with some Shooter Invisible in 14lb using an Alberto knot.

Casting: ARK's WES75MHFC comes with the current day typical, medium heavy lure rating of one quarter ounce to one full ounce (1/4-1oz). I say current day because maybe a decade ago, the typical medium heavy came with a lure rating of one quarter of an ounce to three quarters (1/4-3/4oz) and the sticks rated up to 1oz were considered heavy power. This reflection serves no real purpose other than to admit I'm getting old and to bump my word count for this article.

One of Wes Logan's favorite baits, the swim jig, also new from ARK

One of Wes Logan's favorite baits is the swim jig. In fact, he throws it so consistently, he has his very own signature line of swim jigs through ARK Fishing International. To tap into that mojo, the only bait I really fished on this stick was a half ounce Wes Logan Swim Jig tipped with a Missile Baits Chunky D trailer. Total weight of this lure combo was 0.8 oz. The stick handled casting and pitching duties with this combo just as expected and I never really had to give it a second thought. Quite the contrary, it felt like I'd been fishing this combo for a long time.
